How I Spent My Summer Vacation
It seems appropriate to open this post with a line grabbed from the start of school. After all, that's why I'm finally stepping back into my craft room. As some of you may know, I've taken the bulk of this year off from crafting to focus on my daughter and get her ready for the start of Kindergarten later this month.
We spent the past few months planting a butterfly garden and raising Monarch Butterflies from eggs all the way through to adulthood. It's been an amazing summer for them around our house and all the kids who've been over have LOVED holding the caterpillars and seeing the different life stages. As of yesterday morning we personally have released 6 male and 3 female butterflies, as well as rescued a badly damaged male Monarch whom we later re-released into the wild.
I'll admit, I did take some time for myself as well, taking up a new hobby. At the end of January my SIL signed me up for Burlesque Dance Classes. For those of you who don't know me, I have NEVER been a dancer. It turns out, I actually love it. I've been taking that class every Tuesday night, and added in another dance type workout, Ballet Bootcamp, on Thursday nights.
While this has been a great time for my family, I'm very excited to resume my home business/epic love affair with crafting and Stampin' Up!®!
Getting Back to Crafting
After a 6 month hiatus, where does one begin with picking up her crafting mantle? Well, I started by placing my first order from the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog. I know, I know, it's been out for two months already. This is by far the longest I've gone without placing an order. I did manage to slide it in last night just in time to reap the $5 reward certificates (redeemable as of today for any of you whom have some pending!
While I don't expect to see my order before next week, I'm looking forward to getting back to crafting this weekend. For starters, my husband's birthday is this Monday so I have to make him a card. That's the only reason I've made anything over the past few month (family birthdays). Up next, I'm planning to tackle the pretty heavy Red Box Pileup I have happening in my craft room.
Red Box Pileup
For those of you unaware of what Red Box Pileup is, allow me to ellaborate. Stampin' Up!® offers a monthly subscription box called Paper Pumpkin®. This monthly package is your One Stop Box for Creativity and includes an exclusive stamp set, an ink spot, and everything you need to create amazing projects for just $22.
While this is perfect for beginning crafters, I enjoy the ability to whip out a dozen cards with no thought while binge-watching tv. And I have to admit, I love coming up with alternate projects every month. Or at least, I did love this until I got sidelined from my creative escape.
The result of months away from my craft zone is what they refer to as Red Box Pileup. It's probably one of the most daunting things to see a tower of these boxes teetering on your desk (the below is just the tip of my red box iceburg), but the satisfaction I'll get from finishing them will be worthwhile!
In closing, I just want to give a shout-out to all of my crafty friends and customers. Thanks so much for sticking with me while I lived the Mom Life. I'm so grateful that Stampin' Up!® allows us to create our own opportunities. As always, I'm here for my Hip To Be Squared Stampers, as well as my customers.
Head on down to the comments and let me know how you've been spending your summer vacation, and what you're looking forward to seeing as we head into the next phase of the year.
