Hey everyone, I've got a fun post for you today. I wanted to play with the Hexagons 3D Embossing Folder from Stampin' Up!® and ended up making two cards using the same sketch. To show the versatility of the folder by showcasing both sides of the Hexagons folder.
So settle in and read on to see how the birds and balloons come together to make these great masculine card options. I'm excited to create from a sketch since it's outside of my norm. I've included my sketch at the bottom of the post if you want to play along. Head on over to my Facebook page to post your design!
As you can see, each card uses just two colors of cardstock and ink. I didn't alter the layout at all between them, but I made one change that makes a big difference. The balloon card shows the embossed layer as it was designed for the folder, while the bee card used the reverse image. It's always one of my favorite things about embossing folders; you get two designs for the price of one!
For the bee card, I used So Saffron and Basic Black. Once I ran the So Saffron through the Big Shot, decided I wanted to accent the hexagons. Using a sponge dauber (great for precise application) I inked the upper ridges with So Saffron. This helped create the effect of honeycomb I was going for.
Using the Banner Triple Punch, I made 1 1/2" and 1" banners. On the So Saffron banner, I stamped the bee from Dragonfly Dreams in matching ink for a subtle pattern. Hand-stamped patterns are a lot of fun and no two come out alike!
Next I used the bee from the coordinating Dragonfly Thinlits to cut the Basic Black bees. I attached these with the new Mini Stampin' Dimensionals. Using the Happy Birthday, Gorgeousset, I stamped my sentiment and border before cutting with the Every Day Labels Punch. A circle of Black Metallic Thread and a few more Mini Dimensionals finish it off!
Happy Birthday Card
While the colors and stamps changed, I kept this one the same as the bee card. I just love how detailed and dimensional the Hexagons embossing folder is! This card exclusively used the Happy Birthday, Gorgeous set. One of my favorite stamps in this set is the balloon pattern. I stamped this on my Tangerine Tango banner, and on my Basic Gray balloons.
The Balloon Bouquet Punch is a quick and easy way to add balloons to any project. It's definitely my most-used punch. The orange and gray color combo really packs a punch. It's one of my favorite combinations; Kennedy's bedroom is Gray, White, Orange and Purple!
