With all the excitement surrounding the upcoming catalog release, it's easy to forget your old supplies. A family friend's 50th birthday offered me the perfect excuse to challenge myself to use something old, something current and something new!
GETTING OLD(ER) HAS IT'S BENEFITS
My in-laws asked me to make a card (it should be funny!) for a good friend (it needs to be special!) for his 50th birthday. The Bombs Away Birthday set came to mind immediately. I'd been wanting to use the fun, fill-in-the-blank sentiment stamp and I knew just what to write! One of the perks of hitting the big 5-0 is joining AARP and getting discounts at a myriad of places.
I stamped the image on Whisper White with Basic Black Ink, and filled in the blank with a Real Red Stamp n' Write Marker. The finished sentiment reads: "May this be the year you are finally old enough to start collecting AARP benefits!"
I used one of the black card bases from the A Sara Thing Paper Pumpkin kit. I cut a layer of the retiring Brights Designer Paper Stack in Real Red and a small rectangle of Real Red. I attached a piece of black cardstock on top of these at an angle. Next, I used the new Pretty Label Punch (available June 1st) to make clouds. (I'll be totally honest here; I got this punch just for this purpose!)
I punched the balloons from Real Red cardstock and tied Basic Black Baker's Twine to them. I attached the balloons to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals and glued it down in a fun pattern. I tucked the tails beneath the sentiment. I used the Washi tape from the A Sara Thing Paper Pumpkin kit to tie in the diagonal stripe pattern.
Inside, I used a stamp from the Balloon Adventures set (retiring May 31st). I added more of the Washi tape and Real Red cardstock to finish it off.
I hope you feel inspired to mix some of your old supplies with your new ones. I know I'm guilty of letting old favorites collect dust when I get new toys to play with. Let me know what you're playing with down in the comments!
