Celebrating Fall & Halloween
Well hey, everybody! You may have noticed I've been a bit quiet over here this month. Actually, that's an understatement; it's been crickets. But the chorus of chirps is coming to an end as I stretch my arthritic fingers and get back into my office.
The Autumnal Equinox has arrived, bringing with it chilly evenings, an early flu season (hence my absence) and the inexplicable urge to buy tiny pumpkins and gourds. While I can't explain the phenomena of fall ephemera, I am all too eager to partake. But first, coffee.
Let's Get to Hopping
The Fun n' Crafty Team is doing their monthly Blog Hop today celebrating Fall and Halloween. If you're joining me from Christine's post, welcome! And if you're starting here, make sure to click through to see the fun projects! Today I'm sharing two cards (one for each occasion).
Both cards use one of my favorite watercolor techniques: the drip method. I had a watercolor class earlier this month which reminded me how easy and fun it is to create these one of a kind backgrounds. Watch future posts for a tutorial on how to create your own!
I decided to dive into the Holiday Catalog with the Merry Cafe Stamp Set, and these are my first creations with it. I hope you like coffee!
Keep Calm PSL Card
Up first, I'm celebrating the return of a seasonal favorite, the Pumpkin Spice Latte! I used a combination of Cajun Craze, Tangerine Tango, and Pumpkin Pie to color both the cup and background. For my sentiment, I combined the PSL stamp from Merry Cafe with a stamp from the September Paper Pumpkin Kit (Layered Leaves) Using the Stitched Shapes Framelits, I ran a full pass followed by a partial pass through the Big Shot to achieve the rectangle.
Some Burlap Ribbon, Touches of Nature Wood Elements and Corrugated Elements combine to create a warm, inviting feeling. Turning to the Painted Autumn Designer Paper, I fussy-cut a pumpkin as a finishing touch. (Stock up on this and other DSP from October 1st-31st with the Buy 3, Get 1 FREE promotion Stampin' Up!® is running)
Fun Tip: Ink the edges of your fussy cut images to make them POP!
Scream & Sugar Card
Up next is my Halloween card. My cup is colored the same as the last project, while my background is very different. I started with a wash of Smoky Slate, topped with drips of Smoky Slate, Tangerine Tango and Elegant Eggplant. I trimmed this one so you don't see the pooling, but still added Wink of Stella to the purple drips.
Using the smallest washi from the Pick a Pattern set, I created this border with brackets of the Vintage Crochet Trim. A Stitched Shapes oval of Basic Gray and some Black Rhinestone Bling finish off this fun and simple card.
Thanks so much for stopping by and seeing my projects. Make sure to stop by the rest of the team's blogs today for more Fall Fun! Next up is Jennifer at Northwest Stamper. Head down to the comments and let me know your favorite fall moment (and if you're in on the gourd collecting!)
